James
Espey (B.Com, MBA & PhD).
James Espey spent most of his career in the liquor industry, starting
in Sales & Marketing in South Africa before holding a number of
senior international management positions.
He retired as Chairman of Seagram Distillers plc and President
of the Chivas and Glenlivet Group in 1998. From 1986-1992
he was with United Distillers (Guinness plc), last as President
of United Distillers North America. He was with International Distillers
& Vintners Ltd (Grand Metropolitan PLC) from 1970 to 1986 and was
Executive Chairman of IDV UK Limited from 1982 - 1986 after having
been IDV Group Marketing Director from 1977-1982 with specific global
responsibility for new product development e.g. Baileys, Piat D’Or
and Malibu. |

His background is in marketing and brand creation. He is a founder
and past chairman of The Keepers of the Quaich - Scotland's leading
international Whisky Society. He has held non-executive positions with a number of interesting companies and has recently retired from Fullers Smith & Turner plc and Mimecast Limited. He is the senior non-executive director at A G Barr plc and is a non-executive director and consultant with Whyte & Mackay. In 2007, with two friends and former colleagues he created
