James Espey believes strongly
that business, if not society,
today has too few leaders and far too many managers.
Of course we must manage tasks and get them done but where are the
people who inspire others to good works and make sure that there
are clear goals which are achieved? Too many
supposed leaders are preoccupied with self-importance and political
ambition, rather than with winning the hearts and minds
of consumers who are the true deciders of a company's fortune.
A good leader inspires people to make things happen.
In business that means providing consumers with what they
truly want at a price which is attractive to the consumer
and profitable to the company. |

80% of corporate time
should be focused on the consumer and 20% on process to make it
happen. Unfortunately today the converse too often applies, with
80% of time being spent on internal politicking and process. In
recent times we have seen the demise of the number of once great
companies who forgot that the consumer is the ultimate voter and
that without a positive cash flow there is no future. It is said
that the time to buy an umbrella is when it is not raining or the
time to arrange financial facilities is when you don't need them.
Does your company understand the true requirements of leadership
in the shrinking globe of today? |
