The role of a chief executive
or senior director is increasingly isolated and often lonely. At
the end of the day great leaders empower people to make things happen.
Managers, on the other hand, execute tasks. The challenge therefore
is to turn a manager into a leader and to make a chief executive
or senior director a more effective leader. In my own career I have
of course made many mistakes and have learnt much from them.
Equally I am pleased to look back on a great deal of achievement.
One of the great rewards in my life has been helping people
to maximise their potential and it fills me with pride to see a
number of former colleagues holding senior positions as
captains of industry. |

You may be in a large
company, you may be in a small company but what matters is that
you are effective and thus successful. Who can you talk to? Who
will give you unbiased advice and total honesty? Who is outside
the political spectrum? When you cannot sleep and churn over worries
who will help you?
In a nutshell, as a seasoned 66 year old veteran with no ambition
of his own other than to help you, I believe I can, either personally
or through my network, find a mentor and friend to help you get
the best out of your career. |
